Christ Episcopal Church – Stained Glass Window
The narthex windows depict stories from the Old Testament. Joseph Forgives His Brothers on the east and Samuel Anoints David as King on the west. Both were made by the Pittsburgh Stained Glass Company in 2003. The other four windows were added two years later and depict Abraham sacrificing Isaac, Noah’s Ark with animals found in Texas on the east, the angel touching Isaiah’s lips with a hot coal, and Moses with the tablets.
The windows in the back and nave of the church show scenes from the life of Christ. The sequence begins at the back and continues on the south and north walls. The two arched windows at the back depict the Annunciation to the Shepherds and the Three Marys at the Tomb. The windows were made at the turn of the twentieth century with Tiffany-style veined glass.
The arched windows in the transept are larger. The window in the north transept depicts the Ascension of Christ. In the south transept is the Descent of the Holy Spirit.
In the apse are three arched windows. The largest in the center shows the standing Virgin holding the Child in the clouds. The flanking windows, which were made in the early twentieth century, depict on the right, a swan-like pelican plucking its breast to feed its young and, on the left, the Lamb of God perched on a book with the seven seals.
